My Digipak in Photographs

In order to test that my digipak works I have printed it out and made a physical copy. The layout and structure work well and I have found no problems.

Inside of my Digipak

This image will cover all three sides of my inner digipak. I created it by taking a still of my protagonists eye, editing it using various methods on photoshop in order to get the right light, contrast and colouring, then I overlayed the lyrics of By Your Side in small writing over and over again to create the finished effect.

Front and back of digipak

I have now chosen and finalised my designs for the front and back of my digipak. The outer layers of digipak's are the most important as these are the layers that are seen the most by the public and the cover is often what attracts someone to a digipak. I chose these designs as I felt that their bright colouring and striking imagery would not only be suitable for the artist but would make the digipak eye catching and therefore stand out when put against other digipak's. I have kept the font consistent through out. I only have a few touches such as adding bar codes and small copyright text left to complete the outer layers of my digipak.

Idea's for Digipak

I have been working on various idea's for my digipak. I have been working mainly with Photoshop which i am finding incredibly useful. I have been experimenting with effects to see what is possible.

Here I copied each individual letter onto a photo of a piano. I feel it is in
keeping with CocoRosie's alternative genre of music.

An Investigation into the Decline of CD sales

The graph in the post below shows how the music industry's roots of revenue are changing. This is due to the easily accessible option of downloading music which we now have. Although this graph is dated back to 2008 it shows the trend which has increased and developed over the last few years causing trouble for artists, producers and record companies. This has pushed artists to have more live performances in order to keep bringing in the cash, which is better for the artists themselves as they retain such a large percentage of the money due to ticket sales.

This chart shows how the purchase of CD's (the blue line) has been decreasing rapidly, and the purchase of music online both of albums (the green line) and single downloads (the red line) has been increasing. Particularly the use of single downloads. This chart represents how the way music is being listened to and bought is rapidly changing, causing trouble for the producers, record companies. This is also due to other aspects such as illegal downloads.

Digipack copy

In order to learn how to use Photohsop and to look onto what makes up a Digipak I will be making a copy of a Digipak as accurately as I can. I have chosen to look at lady Gaga's The Fame Monster as she is a current leading artist.

Lady Gaga's Digipak;

My Copy;

When making my copy the photographs of Lady Gaga were the only part I did not create myself on Photoshop and considering this I see my copy as fairly accurate and successful.

I have found that there was allot more work in copying a Digipak than I thought as each detail must be made accurate. Things like exact font size, exact font colouring, shadowing of font, colouring of photo's, contrast and brightness levels are just a few of these fine details which must be attended to when making a Digipak.
